The world’s largest gathering on women’s health and rights, the Women Deliver Conference, will take place at London’s ExCeL from 18-20 October.

“ExCeL London was the perfect choice for the conference as it has the capacity, the facilities, the location, the transport links and the flexibility to ensure that our event is the leading healthcare event of the year,” said Women Deliver’s Bernadette Simmons.

The event will focus global attention on the need to invest in women and improve their health and safeguard their rights. The conference theme is ‘Invest in Women: It pays’. Aims include securing commitment among policy-makers, opinion leaders and donor agencies to the health and rights of women, including substantial increases in financial and human resources.

The event is expected to bring together more than 2,500 participants from across the globe. These will include major political and public figures as well as leading health professionals. The key target audience will be ministers of finance, planning and health from selected southern hemisphere countries.

The conference has been timed to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of the Safe Motherhood Initiative, whose aim is to draw the world’s attention to and reduce the number of deaths and illnesses associated with pregnancy and childbirth.

Commenting on winning the show’s business, Vanessa Cotton, managing director of ExCeL London’s conference and events division, said: “We are delighted that the Women Deliver conference has chosen our venue for this highly important event. This is a real flagship event for London and we’ll be working extremely hard over the following months to ensure its success.”
