London’s leading corporate event planners are benefiting from the capital’s style-savvy teens who are opting for super chic celebrations to mark their ‘coming of age’. The state-side social trend, mixed with multi-cultural London embracing so many more traditions, has resulted in a multi-million pound business feeding the appetite of the capital's teenage party glitterati.

What’s more, this growing trend is pushing events companies’ creative expertise to the limit. One such business, Evolve Events, has been tasked with creating a selection of highly original events for its new client base. Nowadays, the term Barbie suggests a team of chefs serving fabulous Moroccan spiced kebabs as the teenage guests lounge in yurts and chill to tribal beats! Themes such as Diamond and Denim, Secret Garden, Full Length and Fabulous and even a roomful of decks with DJ-teachers have been created by Evolve’s team of planners.   

With venues including Kent House in the heart of Knightsbridge and super chic clubs more used to older clubbers, the average spend on the venue alone exceeds £2,000. Add in the private caterer, the flair barman (to add some glamour to the non-alcoholic cocktails) and the necessary styling to reflect the theme, and costs are quickly mounting. A web-invite and dedicated website complete the event and push costs over the £9,000 mark!  

“Our team has seen a significant growth in the 16th birthday party – it certainly seems to be more in demand than the traditional 18th celebration,” said Evolve’s managing director Gary Peters. “It’s certainly not coming from pocket money that has been saved up; it is a reflection of our society and how kids are growing up younger and younger. The average cost of a wedding is said to be £25,000. And with weddings being held later in life there’s a huge demand for teenagers to celebrate. The demand is as high from boys as it is girls, with the young guys marking their 16th birthdays with celebrations that are more GQ and FHM than Beano and Dandy!”

With companies looking for new and exciting ways to use events to engage their customers and employees, tapping in to this new and highly creative trend could just be the inspiration they need.
