IEEE’s OCEANS conference will return to Aberdeen in June 2027

The IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society’s OCEANS conference will be held at TECA from 21–24 June 2027, its third Aberdeen edition after 2007 and 2017.

Reporting basis

Reporting on P&J Live’s announcement of 20 October 2026, read on 21 October 2026. Dates and quotes are as stated in the release; we have not independently confirmed delegate numbers, which the release does not give.

What was announced

The OCEANS Conference, organised by the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), will be held at The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) from 21–24 June 2027, according to an announcement published by P&J Live on 20 October 2026. It will be the third time the international marine technology conference has come to Aberdeen, after editions in 2007 and 2017.

The release says the conference is run by IEEE OES with a local team from the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University. It describes OCEANS as a forum for scientists, engineers, industry leaders and policymakers working in ocean engineering, marine science and technology. Details of the programme, call for papers and registration are due to follow.

Steve Daun, head of association sales at TECA, called the third win “a tremendous endorsement of both our venue and the city of Aberdeen”. Laura Wilson, head of Aberdeen Convention Bureau, described the city as “a natural home” for the event, citing its expertise in ocean engineering, marine technology, offshore energy and subsea innovation.

How it fits the city’s bidding approach

The announcement follows the launch on 15 October of a joint taskforce in which TECA, the two universities, NHS Grampian and the convention bureau will bid together for association conferences. OCEANS matches the model that group describes: an international congress in one of the region’s established specialisms, brought in with a local academic organising team.

The release does not give an expected delegate number, beyond Daun’s reference to hosting “thousands of delegates”, and it does not include an economic-impact estimate.

What it means for organisers

For other organisers, this is Events Review’s reading rather than anything stated in the release: TECA and much of the city’s hotel stock will be busy around 21–24 June 2027. Anyone considering Aberdeen for a large event that month should check venue and accommodation availability early.

For associations weighing a UK host city, the useful detail is the local committee. Ask any destination which academic or professional partners would commit time to your event, and what they would actually do.
