You get sole use of the building when you hire Liverpool Philharmonic Hall: the 1,677-capacity auditorium, foyers for reception, catering and exhibition, backstage production offices, speaker rooms and dressing rooms, with the venue’s events team and technical support. If your numbers are smaller, the Music Room directly behind it takes up to 250 standing as a separate, fully inclusive hire. The Art Deco hall on Hope Street is home to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and its public programme of contemporary music and comedy also runs in the Music Room.
Event spaces and capacities
You can match the room to your numbers across three spaces offered for hire. The largest is the Hall, at 1,677, which the venue says drops to 1,571 for promoters after standard holds. The Music Room is on the ground floor, with a removable wall and a bar area that can be folded into the main room. The Friary, a converted church in Everton, is offered for recording and rehearsal. No exhibition floor area is published for the Hall’s foyers. Hire enquiries go to [email protected].

Capacities as published by the venue on its performance spaces page, checked 4 November 2026. The Hall figure is a single auditorium capacity with no layout named. The Music Room’s 80 is published as conference, with chairs and small tables. Areas are calculated from published dimensions: Music Room 13m x 10.9m, bar area 6.7m x 10m (both approximate), Friary main space 21m x 10m.
The room conditions differ, so check them against your running order. The Hall, listed as first floor, has no natural daylight or air conditioning. The Music Room has both. The Friary gives you an acoustically treated former nave with flexible stage risers, a control room, dressing rooms, Wi-Fi, a secure car park, a Steinway grand piano and 189 chairs, and the venue says EMI Classics, Decca and AVIE have recorded there.
Getting there and parking
Your delegates can arrive without a car: Liverpool Central and Liverpool Lime Street are each a 10 to 15 minute walk away, and the 75, 80 and 86 buses pass the building. The Hall is on Hope Street, L1 9BP. The Music Room is on the corner of Myrtle Street and Sugnall Street, with its entrance on Sugnall Street.
Caledonia Street Car Park (L1 9BP) is next door but has limited space. The pre-booked options are aimed at concert audiences: Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Car Park (L3 5TQ), 6pm to 11pm at £6 for most Orchestra concerts, and Vine Court Car Park (L7 7AJ), 5.30pm to midnight at £6.50 for selected events, both a 5 minute walk. Blue Badge holders can reserve at Caledonia Street for £8 for most Orchestra concerts, and drop-off is at the front of the building. No airport, motorway, EV charging or loading details are published.
Disabled delegates can reach every level. At the Hall, two customer lifts give level access from the foyer to the basement toilets, stalls, boxes, Grand Foyer and circle. The Music Room is on one level with an automatic door and two accessible toilets. A Changing Places toilet, a hearing loop, quiet spaces and loan wheelchairs are listed for both. The venue says it holds Gold on the Attitude is Everything Live Events Access Charter.
Catering, AV and accommodation
You can add live music without sourcing it elsewhere: the venue offers the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, which it calls the UK’s oldest continuing professional symphony orchestra, and the Choir for performances or recordings, along with a recording team and help engaging guest artists.
Hall hire includes catering space in the foyers, and there are bars at the Grand Foyer and the Music Room, both in a cashless venue. No caterer policy, hire menus or day delegate rates are published. For production, the Hall comes with events staff and technical support, and the venue points to the Music Room’s sound system and acoustics, but no equipment list is published. No bedrooms are published, and the venue’s local area page suggests Hope St Hotel nearby. It reports a target of cutting energy use in the Hall and Friary by 5% a year, and names no sustainability certificate.
What to ask before you book
- Which holds apply to a conference or private hire, given the gap of 106 seats between 1,677 and the promoters’ 1,571?
- How is the Hall kept comfortable for a long daytime session without air conditioning or daylight?
- What foyer floor plan, stand sizes and loading route can you have for an exhibition? None are published.
- Do the Music Room’s 250, 190 and 80 assume the bar area is included and the wall removed, and what does “fully inclusive” cover?
- Where can daytime delegates park and leave luggage? Published car park hours are for evening events, and audience guidance says bags cannot be checked into the cloakroom.
- Who caters, and can the 1840 Lounge join your hire? It is published only as a concert-night booking at £25 per person.
