The Belfry Hotel & Resort says its meetings and events business has grown in the first year since it finished an £85m-plus redevelopment, with its new 852 m² Masters Suite 70% occupied so far this year and revenue per square metre up 8%. The resort, near Sutton Coldfield on the edge of Birmingham, announced the figures on 3 November, alongside strong forward bookings for 2027.

What The Belfry has reported

The resort’s own figures for its first year after the work are a 70% year-to-date occupancy for The Masters Suite and an 8% rise in revenue per square metre of event space. It also says it has already secured “substantial group business” for 2027, but it has not published a figure for that, or for total event revenue, delegate numbers or the number of events held.

Events it names from the past year include the Meetings Industry Association, beam and Teams Europe, along with hospitality programmes for the DP World Tour and the British Masters golf tournament, which the resort hosts. Katie Niland, its commercial director, said the resort has “grown market share, expanded into new segments and strengthened our position across meetings and events, leisure, golf, wellness and family markets”.

What the redevelopment added

The redevelopment almost doubled the size of the resort. According to The Belfry it added 149 bedrooms, The Masters Suite and a new fitness and wellness building called The Club, increasing bedroom capacity by more than 46% and event space by 43%.

The resort’s meetings and events page now lists 468 bedrooms, five restaurants and bars, and more than 20 function rooms taking up to 920 delegates. It also lists free car parking with electric vehicle charging, and puts the resort 9.2 miles from Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International station and 10 miles from Birmingham city centre.

The Masters Suite in numbers

The Masters Suite is the largest room at The Belfry, at 852 m² (35.6 m by 23.85 m) with a 6.5 m ceiling. The venue’s meeting rooms page gives these capacities for it and the next two largest rooms:

Room Theatre Banquet Cabaret Classroom Size
The Masters Suite 920 648 464 432 35.6 m x 23.85 m, 6.5 m ceiling
Woodlands Suite 418 276 200 214 18.35 m x 19.07 m, up to 4.46 m ceiling
Warwick Suite 276 253 168 200 22.65 m x 13.86 m, 3.9 m ceiling

The resort describes the Masters Suite as suited to conferences, product launches and “mini expos” as well as weddings. With 648 seated for dinner, 920 in theatre style and 468 bedrooms on site, several hundred delegates can meet, eat and stay under one roof. The smaller rooms run down to boardrooms, so breakout rooms are on the same site.

Sustainability and other recognition

The Belfry says The Club has a BREEAM “Excellent” rating for the building, and that the resort as a whole holds Silver EarthCheck accreditation. Neither is a rating of the event spaces specifically, so planners with their own carbon or supplier criteria should ask how those certifications apply to their event.

The resort also points to being named in the top ten “Best Big Places to Work” in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026, and says it was named Hotel of the Year (Independent) at The Cateys 2026. Its meetings page says it was named England’s Leading Meeting & Conference Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2025.

Why it matters for Birmingham events

The West Midlands already has the NEC and the ICC for large exhibitions and conferences, and a set of city-centre hotels that host mid-sized conferences, such as the Hilton Birmingham Metropole and Edgbaston Park Hotel. The Belfry’s expansion adds more of the residential resort format, where delegates sleep, meet and eat on one site, at a scale of several hundred people.

For organisers the practical takeaway is that the extra 149 bedrooms and a single large room change what can be held there in one go. A 400-person conference with an overnight stay and a dinner no longer has to be split between rooms or spill into other hotels, as long as the dates are free. The 70% occupancy figure suggests the main suite is in demand, so popular 2027 dates are worth checking early.
