Leeds Town Hall is a venue in Leeds. It is listed under conference and exhibition venues.

Booking ahead here gets you a Grade I listed Victorian hall on The Headrow in central Leeds, newly refurbished, with a step-free entrance and a lift that the venue says will carry 21 people from street level. The Town Hall has been closed since November 2021 for the most significant refurbishment in its history and is due to reopen in 2027. Leeds City Council runs it, and its commercial team is taking enquiries now for conferences, award ceremonies, meetings, receptions, filming and photography.

Event spaces and capacities

You get a choice between the main hall for large events and smaller rooms for meetings. The venue names the Victoria Hall as its main performance space and says the building also holds a courtroom, the Bridewell cells beneath the front steps and meeting rooms. Its own pages publish no room sizes or capacities by layout while the building is closed, so the table below has no figures yet. A 2019 council announcement said the scheme would add a new space for smaller events.

What the refurbishment changes for your event

Your guests should find the building easier to get into and move around. The venue lists a fully accessible entrance, the 21-person lift, toilets accessible to all visitors, clearer front-of-house routes, new bars for pre-show and interval drinks and a new ticket office for Leeds Ticket Hub. In the Victoria Hall it lists new seating, a new sound system and a restored painted and gilded decorative scheme, funded in part by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The hall’s organ is being rebuilt in a £1.8 million project; the venue says about a third of its 6,500 pipes are new, along with all of its mechanism and console.

Getting there and parking

You get a city centre address, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AD, and the venue gives a what3words location on its site. It publishes no station distances, parking, coach drop-off or loading details at present, so ask for these with your first enquiry.

Catering, AV and accommodation

The new sound system in the Victoria Hall is the one technical upgrade the venue names. It publishes no catering policy, in-house AV or production service, and it lists no bedrooms. Before closing it hosted the Leeds International Beer Festival, the Leeds International Film Festival and the Leeds International Piano Competition, and the council’s 2019 announcement said it also served as a conference venue.

What to ask before you book

  • Which date in 2027 the commercial team will confirm for reopening, and what happens to a provisional hold if the date moves.
  • Seated and standing capacities for the Victoria Hall once the new seating is fitted, and whether the seats can be removed for a dinner.
  • Which other rooms you can hire, including the courtroom, the Bridewell cells and the new smaller events space, with sizes for each.
  • Whether the new bars and catering are run in house or by approved caterers, and whether you can bring your own.
  • How your production team gets equipment into a Grade I listed building, and what fixings the restored decorative scheme rules out.
  • How public concerts, including the Leeds International Concert Season, are scheduled around private hire.
