You can keep a conference, its exhibition and its dinner under one roof in central Nottingham, with a tram stop on campus and a published day delegate rate that NTU says leaves no hidden extras. If the city centre does not suit, the same team can move your event to free-parking sites at Clifton, Mansfield or the Brackenhurst estate near Southwell. NTU Events and Conferencing is the commercial events arm of Nottingham Trent University. It launched in June 2019, replacing the Nottingham Conference Centre brand, and says it welcomes more than 500 events and 10,000+ delegates a year, for up to 1,000 delegates at a time.

Event spaces and capacities

You get tiered lecture theatres, exhibition forums and dinner space in linked buildings at City Campus, which NTU calls its largest venue. The biggest single room is Lecture Theatre 2 in the Newton building, tiered for 475. Newton’s Forum 0 (1,423 m²) and Forum 1 (638 m²) sit outside the lecture theatres and are offered for exhibitions and catering, while Central Court, a glass-roofed space joining Newton to the listed Victorian Arkwright building, takes 500 for a reception or 300 for dinner. Arkwright’s Old Chemistry Theatre seats 110 for dinner. At Clifton, the John Clare building’s Lecture Theatre 6 seats 328 and the Teaching and Learning building is run as a self-contained conference space with ten breakout rooms below its lecture theatres. Brackenhurst’s Bramley building has a 118-seat lecture theatre, and Mansfield Hub’s tiered theatre seats 100. NTU also hires out mock courtrooms in the Chaucer building, food manufacturing labs at Brackenhurst and nursing and engineering labs at Mansfield. It quotes exhibition space for 500 delegates and public events for up to 2,000 visitors across its sites.

Getting there and parking

Your delegates can reach City Campus without a car. The NET tram stops on campus, Nottingham station is about a mile away, and East Midlands Airport is 15 miles out with a Skylink bus every half hour. There is no parking on site, but NTU has discounted rates at Q-Park Talbot Street (NG1 5GG), which must be pre-booked with a code from your event coordinator; the venue also points drivers to the Forest and Phoenix Park park and ride tram sites. By road, NTU gives M1 junction 26 from the north and junction 24 from the south, with NG1 4BU as the driving postcode.

Clifton Campus (NG11 8NS) is on the A453 near M1 junction 24, with up to 500 free spaces. NTU puts East Midlands Parkway and Nottingham stations about ten minutes’ drive away; the nearest tram stop, Southchurch Drive North, is a 20 minute walk. Brackenhurst (NG25 0QF) is 14 miles north of the city with free parking and the 26 or 26A bus from King Street. Mansfield Hub has up to 200 free spaces off Cauldwell Road (NG18 5BH), which must be requested in advance, and the Stagecoach Pronto bus to Nottingham.

Catering, AV and accommodation

You can budget per head with NTU’s inclusive day delegate rate, which it says covers unlimited Fairtrade organic tea and coffee, juices and water, morning and afternoon snacks, a hot fork or finger buffet lunch, a data screen and projector, Wi-Fi, notepads and a flipchart, and on-site AV support. Some items, such as PA, digital signage and floor-to-ceiling windows, apply only in its dedicated conference rooms. Catering is by NTU’s in-house team, which offers canapés, fork buffets, street food, barbecues and seated menus and states sustainable and food waste policies. For larger productions NTU will recommend external AV companies. Brackenhurst has up to 250 bedrooms from August to early September, 24-hour residential packages run in the summer vacation, and NTU says it has preferred rates with local hotels. The university has held ISO 14001 since 2012, Clifton has held Green Flag status since 2012 and Brackenhurst gained it the same year. NTU publishes AccessAble access guides for its campuses.

What to ask before you book

  • Which Newton lecture theatres are free on your dates, since NTU lists Lecture Theatre 2 as both a 475-seat tiered room and in a 70-classroom group, and Lecture Theatre 9 in two rows.
  • Whether Forum 0 and Forum 1 can be held for your exhibition all day while lectures run next door, and what stand and power limits apply.
  • How many Q-Park Talbot Street spaces your discount code covers, and whether delegates can book them themselves.
  • Which capacity applies at Clifton, as the Pavilion page gives the Refectory 200 for a reception and 150 for dinner while the banqueting page quotes 250 for dining and 1,000 for a Pavilion drinks reception.
  • Exactly what the day delegate rate includes in a lecture theatre or Brackenhurst classroom rather than a dedicated conference room.
  • Whether Brackenhurst bedrooms and summer residential packages are open for your dates, given they run only in the vacation.
