You can run a plenary for 1,433, an exhibition and dozens of breakout sessions on one campus a 15 minute walk from Exeter St David’s station, then put delegates to bed on site in the vacations. Event Exeter is the University of Exeter’s conference and events team, based at Reed Hall, and it sells the event spaces on the Streatham Campus and the smaller St Luke’s Campus just over a mile away.
Event spaces and capacities
You get a choice of scale rather than a single hall. The venue’s capacity charts list 104 individual rooms on 12 venue pages, before counting the combinations its movable walls allow. The largest figure is 2,200 theatre style or banquet in the Indoor Tennis Centre at the Sports Park. The Great Hall in Devonshire House is the largest conference room, at 1,433 theatre style on the current chart with space for 46 exhibition stands, and the venue’s 2019 information sheet gives its main floor as 500 square metres. The Forum next door adds the Forum Street for 26 stands, a 435 seat auditorium and 12 seminar rooms, so a large conference can stay under linked roofs. The Peter Chalk Centre’s two halls split into 12 seminar rooms, and Reed Hall, a Grade II listed house, takes 140 for dinner in the Woodbridge Room. The table shows the main spaces; smaller rooms are summarised in the notes.

Capacities as published by the venue. Source: event.exeter.ac.uk (sports park, great hall and devonshire house, lemon grove, the forum, forum information sheet min, peter chalk centre).
Capacities as published by the venue on its venue pages, with areas and reception figures from its Great Hall, Forum and Peter Chalk information sheets, checked 6 November 2026. The Great Hall page itself quotes 1,435 theatre style, and some sheets are older than the online charts.
Getting there and parking
Most delegates can arrive without a car. The venue says Exeter St David’s is about three quarters of a mile, roughly 15 minutes on foot, from the Streatham Campus, with Stagecoach H and 4 buses and a station taxi rank quoting £3 to £6. It lists direct trains from London in about 2 hours, and GWR conference fares that it says can cut ticket prices by up to 80%. Exeter Airport is about six miles away, around £20 by taxi or on the Stagecoach 56 bus to the city. By road, Exeter is on the M5. Car Park B has 30 electric vehicle charging bays, the Great Hall information sheet points to Car Park C on Stocker Road with 10 accessible bays, and St Luke’s has a large car park whose availability depends on the time of your event. The venue does not publish parking charges.
Catering, AV and accommodation
You deal with one in-house catering team rather than outside caterers. The venue says that team holds the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s 3 Star rating and buys from Fairtrade-certified suppliers. Its lecture theatres and seminar rooms are listed with AV equipment, Streatham Court adds recording, video conferencing and hearing loops, and an Event Management Service can take on delegate administration. For residential events, the Streatham Campus offers more than 500 bedrooms during the Easter and summer vacations (7 to 21 April and 17 June to 8 September in 2026), and Holland Hall has 400 en-suite rooms rated 4 star campus accommodation by Visit England.
The team lists ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, AIM accreditation and a Green Tourism Green Meetings Gold award, and won Best Conference Venue (over 1,250 theatre style) at the Conference Awards 2019. On access, it offers hearing loops, vibrating alarm pillows in bedrooms, welcomes assistance dogs, publishes access statements for the Great Hall and Holland Hall, and advises a site visit where older buildings limit access.
What to ask before you book
- Which Great Hall figures apply to your layout, since the web page shows 1,433 and 1,435 theatre style and the 2019 sheet lists dining capacities that change with a bar or dance floor?
- Are bedrooms available on your dates, given that campus bed and breakfast runs only in the Easter and summer vacations?
- Can the Indoor Tennis Centre be set for your event in your month, and what does the Sports Park charge for conversion?
- How many spaces in Car Park B and Car Park C can be held for delegates, and what will they pay?
- Which term-time teaching rooms, such as the Newman lecture theatres or Queen’s Building, are free on your dates?
- Will the Forum Alumni Auditorium seat 435 or the 404 shown on its information sheet for your set?
