You can seat up to 450 guests at a banquet, or stand 600 for a reception, beneath the vaulted ceiling and chandeliers of a working art gallery, with a caterer already based in the building and standard AV available from the venue team. Evening hire starts at 5pm on any day of the week, so you can plan a weekday awards dinner as easily as a Saturday celebration. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum sits on Argyle Street in Glasgow, opened in 1901 and is run by the charity Glasgow Life, which says the building holds 22 galleries.
Event spaces and capacities
You choose between three published spaces, sized for very different groups. The Centre Hall is the large room at 662 m², taking 550 theatre style, 450 for a banquet and 600 standing, and Glasgow Life adds that it can seat up to 500 dining guests. East Court is offered for private dining for up to 30. The KG Cafe on the lower level covers 320 m² and holds 80 for a banquet or 150 for a reception, which suits a smaller dinner, ceremony or drinks. The venue lists banquets, standing receptions, award ceremonies, weddings, fashion shows, filming and concerts as uses. No exhibition space figure is published.

| Centre Hall | 662 | 550 | 600 | 450 |

Getting there and parking
Your guests can arrive by bus right at the door: First Bus services 2, 3 and 77 and McGill’s 17 stop on Argyle Street in front of the museum, Glasgow Life says. Kelvinhall Subway station is about half a mile away. Partick, Charing Cross and Exhibition Centre rail stations are each roughly a mile away, and Glasgow Central and Queen Street are about 1.5 to 2 miles off.
The museum car park has 58 spaces, including 10 free Blue Badge bays, 2 electric vehicle charging bays and 1 motorbike bay. It takes cars only, payment is by coins or the RingGo app, and the overnight flat rate from 6pm to 8am is £3. Spaces on the west side of the building have been closed since 18 August 2025 for restoration works, so the venue points drivers to Bunhouse Road next to Kelvin Hall and recommends public transport. Coaches can still use the designated bays on the east side.
Catering, AV and accommodation
You do not have to bring in a caterer: Encore Hospitality Services runs a permanent event catering base inside the museum and provides the full catering offer, according to Glasgow Life. The venue team can supply standard AV equipment plus technical and security support, and advise on other event services. If you would rather bring your own kit, it must come from one of the venue’s approved suppliers. There are no bedrooms on site. For access, Glasgow Life says lifts reach all public areas, there are accessible toilets on every floor, a hearing loop is installed and assistance dogs are welcome. The building has free WiFi.
What to ask before you book
- Will scaffolding from the conservation and repair programme, which began in September 2025, be visible in the Centre Hall or East Court on your date?
- How many cars can the 58-space car park take on your evening, and can coaches for your guests use the east side bays?
- Which layout gives the Centre Hall its 500-seat dining figure, compared with the 450 banquet figure in the capacity table?
- Can you get access before 5pm to build a stage, screens or a fashion show runway, given that the museum is open to the public until 5pm?
- What does the standard AV package include, and which approved suppliers can you use for extra lighting or sound?
- What area and layout options does East Court offer beyond its 30-guest private dining figure?
